This annotated diary is comprised of daily entries from the time Capt. Piech enlisted in the USAAF to the conclusion of his tour of duty in Europe. He served as a B-17 bombardier with the 8th Air Force's 351st Bomb Group. He survived many dangerous missions, including the 8/14/43 raid on Schweinfurt. Before returning to the States, Capt. Piech also served on Gen. Ira Eaker's crew when he was reassigned from the 8th Air Force to the North African Theater.
