John Conover was born in Glen Ridge New Jersey on June 17, 1923. He graduated from Montclair High school 1941. He attended Union College from 1942 to 1944. In 1942 he entered the United States Navy Reserve he served on the USS Texas and attended Naval Gunfire and Liaison Officer School. He experienced a shipping bombardment in the Okinawa invasion against the Japanese. Mr. Conover entered Rutgers College of Agriculture in fall of 1946, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1949 with a major in Dairy Husbandry. At Rutgers, he rowed crew and was a member of Alpha Zeta and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities. From 1946 to 1950 he worked as a herdsman in the summers. Upon graduating Rutgers he became a full time herdsman until 1953 and then became a school teacher until 1992.
