Gloria Decker was born in Philadelphia in 1925. She grew up in a Lebanese-American household during the Great Depression years. During World War II, she worked as a welder at a shipyard. She joined the Women's Army Corps in 1944. She went to training in Oglethorpe, Georgia and then was stationed in Newport News, Virginia processing troops coming back from overseas. In the interview, she discusses the impact that the Second World War had on her family. During her career, Ms. Decker worked for several companies, including General Motors and Technitrol, and lived in Pennsylvania and then in New Jersey.
