Description:
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. English was raised in that city's Mayfair neighborhood and, later, in Haddon Heights, NJ.  He earned his BA degree in history from Rutgers in 1963.  In 1963, Mr. English began his business career in Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (later CIGNA).  From 1964 to 1966, he served in the US Army as an infantry officer in the XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division.  While with the 82nd, he served in the deployment of US forces to the Dominican Republic to restore order during the Dominican Civil War from April to the early Fall of 1965 (Operation POWER PACK).  From 1966 to 1969, he served as a US Army Reserve Special Forces officer with the 16th Special Forces Group.  While at CIGNA, he earned an MBA from George Washington University and graduated from the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.  Before leaving the company in 1996, he had risen to the second highest position in CIGNA, President of CIGNA HealthCare.  From 1997 to 1999, he served as Chairman of the Board and CEO of Aesthetics Medical Corporation Management, Inc.  In 1999, he founded his own management firm, Lawrence P. English, Inc.
