Herbert Degan was born in 1916 in New York City.  He was educated at Johns Hopkins University from 1933-1937, receiving his degree in Electrical Engineering.  In 1942, at the age of 27, Mr. Degan joined the Army Air Corps and became a pilot, eventually flying B-17s in the ETO.  During his time in the service, observed the Nuremberg Trials and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.  After the war, Mr. Degan used the GI Bill to purchase a home, and worked as an electrical contractor and sales engineer.
