Description:
Joseph Pitula was born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1925.  He grew up in Hackensack, playing baseball for the Hackensack High School team.  Pitula joined the US Navy in 1943 and worked as a Clerk during World War II.  Joseph trained at Newport Naval Training Base and was assigned to storekeeper school in Banbridge, Maryland.  He was then transferred to the Pacific in a service squadron that was stationed near New Caledonia and New Hebrides.  Pitula served for two years in the Pacific Theater.  He attended Bergen Junior College on the GI Bill, earning his degree in Business Administration.  He later worked doing Office Sales for Square D Company in Secaucus.
