Herbert Gansz was born on April 27, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he was a child, his family moved to Brooklawn, New Jersey. In 1938, Mr. Gansz graduated from Gloucester High School.
During World War II, Mr. Gansz served in the U.S. Army. He completed basic training at Fort Eustis, Virginia and advanced training in radar and defense at Fort Schafter, Hawaii. He was stationed in Oahu and Palmyra Island.
Following the war, Mr. Gansz attended Glassboro State (Rowan) on the GI Bill and graduated in 1948. Then, he went to the University of Pennsylvania School of Education and earned his Master's degree. Mr. Gansz spent his career in public education, becoming superintendent in Deptford and Haddon Heights.
