Peter Hawkins grew up in Bogota, New Jersey. He went to school at Phillips Andover Academy. Following in his father's footsteps (RC '43), Hawkins went to Rutgers College. He initially played baseball before switching to rugby. He was a member of the Glee Club and Delta Phi fraternity. In the interview, he recalls auditioning for the Glee Club with Soup Walter and describes rehearsals, concerts and trips. He recounts the Glee Club's trip to Europe in 1971, including a performance outside of Prague on the anniversary of the August 20, 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. At Rutgers, he met his future wife, who was a student at Douglass College at the time. A studio art major, he notes the influence of Geoff Hendricks and Bryan Pottier. He went on to play rugby for ten years at the national team level. Later, he led the rugby program at Yale. During his career, he has worked as a banker, mortgage broker and financial advisor.
