John M. Keeler was born in Seattle, Washington in 1944 and attended high school in North Caldwell, New Jersey.  Keeler graduated from Rutgers College in 1967 with a degree in English and was a Phi Beta Kappa.  In 1968, he joined the US Army and served as a Personnel Management Specialist (71H30) in Europe with the 7th Army Special Troops and HQ of the USAREUR.  After his military service, Keeler worked in higher education and spent his career at the County College of Morris.
