Description:
Frederick E. Gruninger was born in East Orange, New Jersey in 1931. He was in the Rutgers class of 1953.  As an undergraduate, he played baseball.  After college, he joined the Army and served with the Third Armored Division stateside.  In 1959, Gruninger joined the Rutgers Department of Alumni Relations as Assistant to the Director.  In 1961, Gruninger went back to school and earned a master's of education from Rutgers.  He later taught English and coached football at Rahway High School before going back to Rutgers to work as the athletic director.
