Marty Siederer was born in 1955 in the Flatbush Section of Brooklyn, New York. During his time in Brooklyn, he lived in an apartment complex while he attended P.S. 269 Elementary School from 1960-1965. In 1965, he and his family moved to Highland Park, New Jersey. He attended Hamilton School in Highland Park and finished up his years in junior high there. Afterwards, he went to Highland Park High School from 1969-1973. It was during his time there that he began to develop an interest in journalism.

Following his graduation, he decided to go to Livingston College. Influenced by his experience in high school, he majored in Journalism and Urban Communications. He then went on to obtain an internship at The Trenton Times, where he covered various topics such sports and crime. He graduated from Livingston College in the Class of 1977.

For his first job, he worked at a public relations firm in Somerville, New Jersey. In 1979, he began to work for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Since then, he has held a variety of positions, such as research grant coordinator and assistant director of public relations, and is currently the society’s senior director of the campaign department. Additionally, he has been active in alumni organizations, notably the Livingston Alumni Association, where he is currently a board member, and the Rutgers Alumni Association, where he is currently the president-elect.
