Baker, Irvin

Mr. Baker was born in Akron, Ohio and raised on a farm in Estelle Manor, Atlantic County. His mother's father owned a large chicken farm in Estelle Manor. He attended elementary school in a one room classroom school before moving to Atlantic City where he attended high school. He goes into detail about moving from Estelle Manor to Atlantic City and the diversity of the two areas. He came to Rutgers in 1940, majoring in Agriculture and Agronomy. After World War II, he came back to Rutgers and graduated in 1947. He got married in Atlantic City in 1947. He worked for Allied Chemical Corporation as a Salesman and was executive of the Seacoast Laboratories until his retirement.

Berglund, John

Mr. Berglund grew up in the Atlantic City area. His mother’s family owned a restaurant and she was a stenographer for the Atlantic City Convention Bureau. His father had several jobs including a landscaping job in Trenton and he worked for the Homeowners Loan Corporation in Newark. He was also heavily involved with the Ventnor Community Church and a First Lieutenant in the New Jersey Guard during the Great Depression. Berglund worked on the boardwalk as a teenager for the Steel Pier, collection garbage and at Woolworth’s. He attended Atlantic City High School. He majored in microbiology at Rutgers College in New Brunswick. He enlisted into the Marines where he served as an artilleryman in the PTO.
