Interview Summary:

Ana Ortiz is the founder of the mutual aid organization No Más Lágrimas (No More Tears). Born in Puerto Rico, Ortiz moved to the U.S. when she was a teen and eventually settled in Ithaca, New York. In the interview, she describes what motivated her to found No Más Lágrimas in order to help community members by providing a wide range of services. In terms of organizational development, she discusses fostering a family-friendly environment, as well as forming partnerships with other local entities, including Mutual Aid Tompkins and Cornell University. She recounts the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the local community and on her own family, especially in consideration of family members with underlying health issues. She describes the hardships of balancing her work at No Más Lágrimas with caring for her family amidst the pandemic.
