Born in August 1958 in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, Hemant Patel grew up immersed in the entrepreneurial spirit of his father, Prabhudas Patel, a pioneering figure in India’s plastic packaging industry.
Educated at N.M. College of Commerce & Economics in Mumbai, Hemant balanced academics with hands-on experience in his father’s factory, where he developed a keen understanding of packaging design and cost-effective manufacturing. His innovative approach to reducing material usage without compromising quality earned him recognition among corporate clients.
In 1984, Hemant permanently relocated to the United States, initially working in plastics before transitioning into the jewelry industry. He became CEO of Diastar Inc., where he led marketing efforts and expanded the company’s reach to major retailers like Walmart, Macy’s, and Zales. His strategic insight into consumer behavior and product presentation helped him navigate the competitive landscape of American retail.
Hemant later founded his own company, focusing on product development and marketing, with manufacturing outsourced globally. His brand “Noor” became a success in the luxury jewelry market. He also pioneered inclusive product lines, including jewelry for LGBTQ+ weddings.
Beyond business, Hemant is deeply committed to humanitarian work and civic engagement. As founder and president of the India-US Forum of Monroe Township, he has led initiatives in education, cultural preservation, and disaster relief. His efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and local flooding events earned him multiple proclamations and widespread community respect.
Hemant serves on several boards, including the Middlesex County Planning Board and Monroe Township’s Affordable Housing Board, contributing to infrastructure development and veterans’ housing. He is also a longtime member of GOPIO, advocating for Indian diaspora issues and social justice.
A devoted husband and father, Hemant’s wife is a certified hospitality manager, and his daughter Vinisha is a dedicated medical student on her way to becoming a doctor and a community leader, continuing the family’s legacy of service and excellence.
