Introduction to Oral History (History 01:506:302)

Each spring semester, the Department of History offers an oral history course titled "Introduction to Oral History." In recent years, Professor Kristyn Scorsone, Post-doctoral Fellow at the Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis, have taught the highly reviewed course.

From Professor Scorsone's Course Syllabus: This course provides an introduction to oral history as a method of conducting historical research. Why is oral history an important tool for historians, especially those who document marginalized histories? What are the ethics of doing oral history? How can oral histories be put into action to create dynamic public history projects? Is it possible for oral histories to have an impact on social justice issues? Throughout the semester we will grapple with these and other questions.
