Join us for the Chambers Oral History Graduate Student Fellowship Lecture on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 8 AM in Van Dyck Hall, Room 301. Ph.D. candidates Raven Manygoats and Sarah Coffman will discuss how they use oral histories in their research to explore Native American women in the Red Power movement and class dynamics during Philadelphia's Great Migration. Breakfast will be provided.
On March 25, 2026, Kelly Elaine Navies from the National Museum of African American History and Culture will deliver a lecture on the theme “Myth, Memory, and Mirage: Rethinking American History in Times of Crisis” in Academic Building, Room 2400. Additionally, graduate students are invited to a special workshop and luncheon with the speaker earlier that day from noon to 2 PM in Van Dyck Hall, Room 308.
This text is an invitation to the 2025 Fall Chambers Oral History Graduate Student Fellowship Lecture at Rutgers University, scheduled for November 20, 2025. It highlights a joint presentation by scholars Dr. Kiamsha Bynes and Cherene Aniyan, who will discuss how they use oral history archives to explore intersections of class, gender, and sexuality within African American, Asian, and Middle Eastern history.

The event features award-winning author Daniel J. Brown and honors Dr. Kurt Piehler with the ROHA Legacy Award, celebrating their contributions to oral history.
The Alexander Library will host "Raised in Hiroshima, Fought in Vietnam," a conversation with Takeshi Furumoto and Jeongeun Park, on April 29 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. The event will explore Furumoto's extraordinary life experiences, from his birth in a WWII incarceration camp and childhood in post-war Hiroshima to his decorated military service in Vietnam and extensive community advocacy.
Dr. Nicole A. Burrowes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Rutgers University. Her scholarship focuses on African Diaspora Studies, with a specialization in Caribbean and African American history. She is an affiliate with the Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies, Africana Studies, and the Center for Latin American Studies. Dr. Burrowes obtained her in doctorate in Latin American and Caribbean History and African Diaspora Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2015.
The Holmdel Library is hosting a special talk led by Shaun Illingworth, Director of the Rutgers Oral History Archives, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The event will highlight this pivotal World War II moment through the personal experiences and recorded oral histories of local veterans from Monmouth County.
