Description:
Born in 1979 in Vadodara (formerly Baroda), India, Dr. Grishma Shah spent her early childhood there before immigrating to the United States at age seven. Her family roots in the village of Sankheda and her experiences navigating both Indian and American cultural contexts have been central influences in her personal and professional life.
Shah attended Rutgers University, where she majored in political science with a focus on international relations, complemented by coursework in economics and women’s studies. During her undergraduate years, she was deeply involved in global service through Operation Smile, traveling internationally and developing an enduring interest in global development and cross-cultural understanding. She also participated in and helped lead student organizations that explored South Asian culture and political issues.
Her academic trajectory led her to doctoral studies focusing on globalization and cultural change. Shah began her academic career in 2008 at Manhattan College (now Manhattan University), where she specializes in international business, emerging economies, and global society. A dedicated teacher, she has led numerous study abroad programs in countries such as India, Brazil, and Peru, emphasizing immersive, real-world learning experiences that connect students with businesses, communities, and social issues.
In addition to her academic work, Shah is a novelist. Her 2024 book, Anagram Destiny, explores themes of immigration, identity, and globalization, reflecting both her scholarly interests and personal background.
